There are many different sides to Indian cooking and cuisine however, with each region of the country having its own unique tastes and twists. Broadly speaking northern Indian and southern Indian cuisine are considered distinct and within Jamavar Restaurant, excellent examples of both are available. Combining the different regional specialities within a single menu is a common feature within restaurants in Mumbai, India's most culturally diverse and commercial oriented city.
Jamavar derives its name from a process of weaving woollen fabric and this is the same philosophy when it comes to weaving the different tastes of India into a palette which is sophisticated, pleasing to the eye and enjoyed by anyone with a love of great Indian food. Masterchef Surendar takes expectant diners on a journey through India's most revered dishes. From the North come kebabs, fragrant biryanis and all the Mughal influenced delicacies so popular in the region. Typically Awadhi in style, North Indian cuisine draws from central Asia and the Middle East for inspiration.
From the South the spices and curries assault the senses and depict the culture, history and flavours of the southern Indian states. Here, Malabar cuisine takes precedence and is typified by mild curries, steamed rice cakes and pancakes. While both Malabar and Awadhi specialities adorn the menu and prove firm favourites among the clientele they form just a part of the whole India culinary experience on offer at Jamavar.
A selection of set menus are on offer at Jamavar too, for those who wish to entrust their culinary journey to the skills of masterchef Surendar and these can also comprise a suitable wine for accompaniment. A fine selection of single malts, liqueurs and cognac are further drinks options which enhance the quality of the whole dining experience.
A major part of any memorable dining experience is the setting and at the Jamavar, the elegance style, and sophistication of the Leela Kempinski hotel shines through. Fine hotels have fine restaurants but the Jamavar is truly something special and reflects all the best aspects of the respected Leela group.
The Jamavar is no homage to ancient India but a contemporary and confident modern Indian restaurant, set centre stage in the lobby of the magnificent Leela Kempinksi hotel environment. The decor and ambience, aided by Jaipuri chandeliers, gentle classical music and clean elegant lines of the furnishings, at once evokes all the magical and mystical elegance of India whilst bringing right up to date a premier Mumbai fine dining experience.
Jamavar is open each evening for exquisite dinners, from 7.00pm till 1.00am. The restaurants seats just 60 persons giving an intimate and exclusive feel. Advanced booking is highly recommended and reservations will be held up to 30 minutes after time of booking. Dress code is formal or smart-casual.
