Since its opening in 2004, Joss has become one of India's top restaurants and has found its niche in providing guests with first-class modern Far East cuisine. The restaurant was started by Farrokh Khambata, a well-known chef and the creator of 'Catering & Allied', the best catering company available in Mumbai. Khambata is a culinary expert and Joss is a display of his innovation and talent.
As a fine-dining restaurant, Joss caters for a variety of tastes, including dishes from Japanese, Indonesian, Balinese and Malaysian influences. The authenticity of these dishes is further enhanced by the use of the freshest and finest ingredients and each meal provides for a unique experience for one's senses. Joss is both a vegetarian and non-vegetarian restaurant and is open daily for lunch and dinner, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm and 7:30pm to 12:00am respectively. Located in the art and business hub of India's Kala Ghoda it is no surprise that Joss attracts a very elite clientèle, including a number of India's local celebrities.

The interior design of the restaurant has been inspired by oriental cultures. The soft creams and whites on the walls and floors make for a warm ambiance that is heightened by the dim lighting. The dark wood pillars, chairs and finishings however add a dramatic touch to the venue. With a seating capacity of 110, the high-ceiling venue has an upper and lower floor, linked by a sweeping staircase, and has both a smoking and non-smoking section. The golden lily pads pressed up against the walls provide a unique and elegant edge to the otherwise simple and demure decor. Other little finishing touches such as the reed place mats and the origami folded napkins allow for a culturally-inspired eastern dining experience.
Joss is a popular restaurant in Mumbai with both locals and tourists, and is well-known for its varied menu. The choice can in fact be overwhelming, particularly for first timers to the restaurant, and hence it is suggested that diners seek advice from the maitre d as to what to eat. Often labeled as 'experimental Pan Asian' cuisine, Joss Restaurant offers a range of traditional and exotic dishes including appetizers, soups and main courses. Whether you choose a simple Thai green curry or a Balinese clay pot curry, or be a little more adventurous and attempt the miso encrusted Chilean Sea Bass or the crab cappuccino soup, there will be something on the menu at Joss that you will love. On a healthy note Joss boasts its own teppenyaki grill which is specifically designed to minimize fat and maximize flavor.
Be sure to sample some sushi and sashimi while you are there, which is brightly colored and elegantly arranged on the plate - not to mention reasonably priced. Do not leave Joss without ending off your meal with one of the restaurant's signature – and sinful - desserts, the hot Kahlua souffle or the chocolate cigar with prune and Armagnac ice cream.
The fully serviced bar offers a range of drinks and spirits, including cocktails and an extensive wine list. With a choice of wines from international destinations such as Chile, Australia and California, wine-lovers will not be disappointed. For those looking for something a little more out of the ordinary, there is also the option of Japanese-inspired warm or cold sake.
Joss Restaurant also has a banquet room better known as Rampart Row. With 10 000 feet of space this luxurious venue can be used for formal corporate events or more relaxed celebratory functions and parties. No matter what the occasion, Rampart Row will be adapted to suit your needs. This banquet hall uniquely combines heritage and old world charm with modern facilities and state of the art additions. Whether it be a business conference or a romantic wedding reception, the team of event planners at Rampart Row will endeavor to create the perfect setting for your function. There is no lack of attention to detail. Guests can also customize their own menu to suit their event and their guest list.
There are 3 choices of banquet rooms, namely The Grand Aria, The Tuscan and The Lounge. Within each venue, guests have a choice from 3 different types of cuisine offered. The choice includes European, Indian and Oriental cuisine. Adding value to the guests event, Rampart Row ensures that all audio visual equipment is provided, and that any live bands or DJ music is arranged.
The largest of the 3 rooms, The Grand Aria, can accommodate between 150 and 500 people, depending on the type of occasion. Ideal for weddings and large parties this hall has beautiful high ceilings and dazzling chandeliers and is also equipped with air conditioning. The Tuscan on the other hand is a much smaller venue, with a total capacity of 100 to 200 people. This makes The Tuscan a perfect setting for private parties or important business meetings and seminars. For those wanting something much more private, The Lounge provides an intimate space for between 25 and 80 people, allowing for a much more personal atmosphere.
The service at Joss is quick, efficient and above all friendly. Whilst being attentive and prompt, the staff also give you enough space to allow you to enjoy an intimate and private dinner. By combining the familiar with the unfamiliar, the menu at Joss offers well-known meals with a twist. The relaxed yet festive atmosphere and the exceptional culinary delights make for a memorable night out and will definitely leave you wanting to come back to Joss for more. And for those too lazy to leave the house, there is always the option of calling in to place an order for take-away sushi.
